2008 - Rebirth of the Phoenix Project LEBANON

During and immediately after the conflict in Lebanon during the summer of 2006 the Scouts were mobilised to provide first aid cover, assist in hospitals, care for children who had lost their parents, and rebuild houses.  They have done a fantastic job, and now they are inviting the Scouts of European and Arab Regions to come together to help rebuild their country.  This project is supported by both the European and Arab Regions of WOSM.

This is a unique opportunity to learn more about a fascinating country, and help build peace together through Scouting. Younger sections could learn more about the country, and the consequences of conflict, or they could fundraise or collect Medical equipment.  Scout Network members and leaders are invited to visit the country during July and August 2007 to take part in the project in Lebanon, participants may staff an orphanage or hospital, educate young people, help rebuild houses or help clear some of the environmental damage.  Your district may choose to donate this years collection from your St Georges Day Celebrations towards this Gift For Peace.

As well as helping our brother and sister Scouts in Lebanon participants may be able to use this project towards their International Friendship Award, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Global Challenge or many other awards.
